  • Bruxy Cavey — Teaching Pastor The Meeting House & Author Of The End of Religion: Encountering the Subversive Spirituality of Jesus
Was Jesus of Nazareth an irreligious agitator? Was his message more radical than we’ve been led to believe? Has the Christian religion missed the point? Bruxy Cavey thinks so. In The End of Religion, Cavey contends that the Jesus described in the Bible never intended to found a new religion; instead he hoped to break down the very idea of religion as a way to God. With a fresh perspective on biblical stories, Cavey paints a picture of the world God originally intended and still desires: a world without religion.

  • Mark Booth — Author of The Sacred History: How Angels, Mystics and Higher Intelligence Made Our World
In his amazing New York Times bestseller The Secret History of the World, Mark Booth introduced the enthralling history of the world’s greatest secrets. From Greek and Egyptian mythology to Jewish folklore and Christian cults to Don Quixote, he delved into the hidden wisdom going back three millennia—and the light it sheds on humanity’s greatest achievements. Now, in The Sacred History, Booth tackles the great spiritual myths of history, examining the varying explanations—both ancient and modern—of the mystifying realm of angels. These are the stories of how people have been helped, in times of crisis and joy, by angels and other spiritual beings since the beginning of time. Drawing on these awe-inspiring stories, Booth examines how the spiritual world has shaped our history, our beliefs, our civilization, our religions, and ultimately, our sense of self. Philosophical, passionate, entertaining, and filled with gorgeous illustrations, The Sacred History is a gateway into the spiritual world that will open up the possibility of angels to even the most skeptical of readers.
Mark Booth taught philosophy and theology at Oriel College, Oxford, and has worked in publishing for more than twenty years.  He is currently the publishing director at Century in London.

  • Kathy Deane
Kathy was used to the feeling of being unloved, of not being “good enough”, of drinking to feel better, to feel worth & value, just to feel like everyone loved her when she was the life of the party. Again and again, she went looking for love in all the wrong places, trying to fill the void with everything that didn’t fill the void for long. Kathy even started going to church, but soon ran away when she felt smothered by “underserving love”. Eventually, she ran right back into the arms of another dysfunctional relationship. Thinking she had it all together, the proverbial wake up call came when she knew her son was following in her footsteps, making all the same bad choices she had made throughout the years. But when Kathy reached out for help for him, she ended up finding help for herself. But she was terrified to open up about a lifetime of “hurts, habits and hang-ups”! “Would they speak to me again? Would they judge me? Well, when I took off my mask and got honest with someone safe about my anger, about my addiction to alcohol and food, about the sexual assault and abortion...about the real me I was ashamed of - I was greeted with LOVE not Judgement.”

  • This Weeks Recording Artist: Beverley Taft Meets The Nathan Hiltz Orchestra
For three sizzlin’ nights at the www.jazzbistro.ca on April 24-26, Beverly Taft and co-conspirator & guitarist Nathan Hiltz, celebrate their seductive swing originals with the release of “Beverly Taft Meets the Nathan Hiltz Orchestra”.
The chemistry between Taft & Hiltz & Co. on disc ‘n’ stage is undeniable. Add in the talents of a horn section without peer – William Carn (trombone), Shawn Nykwist (tenor sax), Jake Wilkinson (trumpet) and Rich Underhill (alto sax—of Shuffle Demons fame and who is also running for Mayor!) – and the dream rhythm section of Artie Roth on bass and Sly Juhas on drums. Special guests like Adrean Farrugia on piano add further shades of colour to this rich musical tapestry. This release shows Taft to be more than a jazz singer or interpreter. She digs deeper into the language of jazz, towards grasping its very essence for a better understanding of its impact on our lives. As a result, every lyric carries the weight of this deeply-rooted relationship – each word delivered by a singer with an uncanny connection to her material. Taft’s velvety voice and meticulous phrasing proves ideally matched to the band which has coalesced around her. All in all, Beverly Taft meets the Nate Hiltz Orchestra showcases the Taft-Hiltz union with a release that heralds a triumphant return to big band jazz thinking. Taft lends an element of glamour to this project, rekindling the glory days of Doris Day (the understated jazz singer as opposed to her movie star persona) and the swing era. As a result, Taft and her beautiful voice do much more than meet Nathan Hiltz and his Orchestra – she completes the link in a reverent chain, transforming all 9 players into one while they resuscitate a much-loved era of vintage jazz and better times.

This week on The Pub Crawl:
1/ Bob Coy, who founded the Florida mega-church Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, has resigned from his 20,000-member congregation after confessing to a “moral failing”. If people seem to be so forgiving of political leaders like Bill Clinton & Mayor Rob Ford for their “moral failings”, do you think that same attitude of forgiveness should be offered to spiritual leaders?

2/ What would it take for you to NOT believe in Jesus? What if it was proven that he was married? According to reports this week, a small piece of papyrus with writings about Jesus having a wife, has now been verified as being a legitimate ancient artifact. Or what if the authenticity of the Bible was absolutely shattered? Is there anything that would change your mind about the existence of God?

3/ Who made the bigger blunder? A/ World Vision “passively endorsed” same sex marriage by requiring that all employees, gay or straight, refrain from sex until marriage. Then they reversed their decision, after losing thousands of child sponsorships and donations. B/ The Assemblies of God General Superintendent George O. Wood's who issued a press release encouraging Assemblies of God churches and individuals to begin “gradually shifting their support away from the U.S. branch of World Vision to Assemblies of God World Missions, and other Pentecostal and evangelical charities that maintain biblical standards of sexual morality.”
