  • SATE — International Recording Artist, Star of FOR COLORED GIRLS
(SATE [definition]: Satisfy a desire to the full.) With her trademark black lips and platinum Mohawk, the Toronto vocalist and songwriter leads a dynamic band combining blistering hard rock with gritty funk. The empowering messages embedded in her music, and her soul-shaking live show, have quickly built SATE’s reputation as an artist impossible to ignore. Even Canada’s national daily newspaper, the Globe & Mail, declared her full-length debut album, RedBlack&Blue one of 2016’s most anticipated releases. It only takes seeing SATE in concert once to feel the impact of everything she represents. Toronto’s NOW Magazine described her as having “a tornado of a stage presence,” while Lithium’s live reviewer proclaimed, “I can tell you sincerely that she is one of the most resounding artists I’ve heard.” When each show inevitably reaches its climax with the indelible image of SATE, fist in the air, and an entire audience raising its hands in unity, the full spectrum of human emotions—anger, joy, vulnerability—suddenly comes into sharp focus through the music. RedBlack&Blue is the natural result of that live experience, and the culmination of a lifetime spent fully immersed in music of all forms and shades. As the daughter of Canadian blues and jazz pioneer Salome Bey, SATE learned at the feet of countless music legends that passed through Toronto during her childhood. She soon found her own voice by adding the sounds and attitudes of punk and hard rock that shaped her own identity and set her upon her journey.

*SATE is currently starring in the live stage production of FOR COLORED GIRLS! (Winner of The Obie Award for Distinguished Production & nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play) Through music, poetry and dance, seven women weave their stories of love, heartache, violence and joy into a powerful mosaic of the experiences of African-American women. This seminal work celebrates the power of reclaiming one’s voice. According to the show’s director, Djanet Sears, “for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf is more than a poetic drama, more than a dance performance, more than a celebration of the dreams and aspirations, or the profound losses of the women of colour whose stories populate this extraordinary work. At its very core, for colored girls... is a powerful enchantment; an aesthetic exultation; a love song; a healing.” FOR COLORED GIRLS runs throughout May 2017 at Soulpepper in The Distillery at The Young Centre For The Performing Arts.

  • Ian Morgan Cron — Author of The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery
What would you give for a tool that opened your eyes to who you really are, and helped you become your truest self? Ignorance is bliss―except in self-awareness. What you don't know about yourself can hurt you and your relationships―and even keep you in the shallows with God. Do you want help figuring out who you are and why you're stuck in the same ruts? The Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system with an uncanny accuracy in describing how human beings are wired, both positively and negatively. In The Road Back to You Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile forge a unique approach―a practical, comprehensive way of accessing Enneagram wisdom and exploring its connections with Christian spirituality for a deeper knowledge of ourselves, compassion for others, and love for God. Witty and filled with stories, this book allows you to peek inside each of the nine Enneagram types, keeping you turning the pages long after you have read the chapter about your own number. Not only will you learn more about yourself, but you will also start to see the world through other people's eyes, understanding how and why people think, feel, and act the way they do. Beginning with changes you can start making today, the wisdom of the Enneagram can help take you further along into who you really are―leading you into places of spiritual discovery you would never have found on your own, and paving the way to the wiser, more compassionate person you want to become.

*Ian Morgan Cron is a bestselling author, Enneagram teacher, nationally recognized speaker, psychotherapist, and Episcopal priest. His books include the novel 'Chasing Francis' and spiritual memoir 'Jesus, My Father, the CIA, and Me'. Ian draws on an array of disciplines—from psychology to the arts, Christian spirituality to theology—to help people enter more deeply into conversation with God and the mystery of their own lives.

LIVE! on TDMS - Devoted Souly to the Art of Music

  • Preetam Sengupta
"Melodic storytelling" describes his music best, and Preetam Sengupta's live show is built around simple performance, playful stage banter, and very little pyro. While the comparison most often goes the other way, Preetam’s niece has said that Paul Simon sounds like him. Patience is both the title of Preetam’s new album, and a skill he needed to exercise in its release. After his debut album, HopeFull, a personal issue set Preetam back temporarily. He needed to re-learn how to play and sing songs he'd written in the past, unsure he’d ever be able to write another. In time, Preetam found his way back to good health, and in the studio with JUNO-winning producer Byram Joseph (aka Slakah the Beatchild). Joseph's imagination and "musical wizardry" pushed the limits of what Preetam perceived as his abilities, and how his music fit into a particular genre. The result is the album PATIENCE, a labour of love and celebration of life’s joys and sorrows. You'll find Patience, and more of Preetam's music, on Spotify or iTunes.
