The Counsel of Many
This week on the Counsel Of Many: A woman who has been battling a variety of chronic health issues for years is tired of the pain and the unanswered prayers and frustrated with the fact that even her own church elders can't find time to come and pray over her. She wants to know why she shouldn't quit on God?
I have learned some very difficult & valuable lessons in the past year and a half. I have learned who my friends really are. I have learned that just because you work for a Christian organization doesn’t mean that the people in the organization actually care about you. I have asked several times for some of the “elders”, my co-workers, people who I thought cared about me and who believe in the power of prayer, to come and visit me to pray over me. But, they have been too busy for 17 months now!!! I am discouraged with religious people (not all of them)! I am discouraged with doctors and waiting lists. I am trying to be patient, but God knows my heart best and well. He knows that my line of patience has now snapped. Are God’s plans for my future to just fizzle out my life as I waste each day, each hour, each minute being sick? Too sick to focus and concentrate and function on a daily basis, but not too sick to die. I feel like quitting – on God. My prayer: “Dear Lord, I am miserable today. I want to get healthy and I don’t know how. What am I missing? Do you not want me to be well? Is my life’s purpose just to sit around my house and be sick all the time? This illness is taking a toll on my patience, on my strength, on my marriage, on my financial health and on my mental health. Do you want me to just turtle and give up? Is that what being empty is all about? Just giving up and accepting that I am sick and not going to get better! Do I not qualify for the promises of Jeremiah 29:11? I have felt this way before. Are you just trying to remind me of the time I wasted with my life. Is this payback for my mistakes? I don’t believe you are that kind of God. Or are you just pushing me to see how long it takes until I break? The illness, the pain it causes on a daily basis and now the psychological beating I am taking by being stuck at home and unable to work or drive or do much of anything at all. Is this life not worth living in a productive and loving manner, because the more I sit here, the more I want to just give up. God, what are you trying to teach me? I want to learn, but your message is obviously in a different language than mine. Am I not worthy enough to be healed?” -
