  • Noel “Paul” Stookey & Betty Stookey — Noel Is A Grammy Winning Recording Artist (Peter Paul & Mary) Betty An Ordained Minister
Singer/songwriter Noel Stookey has been altering the musical and ethical landscape of this country and of the world for decades, both as 'Paul' of the legendary trio Peter Paul and Mary, and as an independent musician who believes passionately in bringing the spiritual element into the practice of daily life. Funny, irreverently reverent, thoughtful, compassionate - Stookey's vocal sound is known across this land, from the iconic "Wedding Song" to "In These Times". Noel moved to New York City, he was 20, looking for independence, but what he found were “Peter” and “Mary,” and a career that took on a life of its own, with their first album shooting to the top of the charts, where it stayed for two years. He has performed in intimate coffeehouses, at the White House, and in massive stadiums. At the 1963 March on Washington when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech, Peter, Paul and Mary delivered the compelling “If I Had a Hammer” and “Blowin’ in the Wind”. Noel Paul Stookey has recorded over 45 albums, both as part of the legendary trio and as a soloist.

    AND
Wilma Derksen — Mother of 13 year old girl who was abducted and murdered
Wilma Derksen came on our show and shared her heart wrenching journey of every parent's nightmare - her child didn't arrive home after school! Six and a half weeks later, Wilma and Cliff Derksen's 13-year old daughter Candace was found in a shed not that far from their home. Her hands and feet were bound. The cause of death was hypothermia. Someone had taken Candace to this shed that Friday afternoon, on her way to school, tied her up and left her to die in the freezing temperatures. This week, Wilma and her husband received the news that the man held responsible for her abduction and murder will be getting a new trial. Mark Edward Grant was found guilty by a jury of second-degree murder in February 2011 and sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for at least 25 years. He repeatedly denied killing Candace Derksen and appealed that decision to the Manitoba Court of Appeal.

  • Lily Frost — Recording Artist
    CHECK THIS VIDEO OUT!
Singer-songwriter Lily Frost is a rare Canadian gem. She's always danced the line between indie and jazz, thus creating a niche of her own. Lily draws from her real life experiences in her lyrics – in performance, there is an intimacy, a gentle passion that can take you somewhere else and evokes a certain nostalgia – the rainy streets of Paris, a winter picnic or perhaps a beat café in San Francisco. Lily Frost has won West Coast Vocalist of the Year, a SOCAN award for Situation and also a Gemini Award nomination for co-writing the theme song and score for the CBC hit television show, Being Erica. Following upon the success of LILY SWINGS, Lily continues her exploration of the Great American songbook, especially the great songs associated with Billie Holiday. Infectious and charming are the best words to describe her new album, TOO HOT FOR WORDS. Lily Frost brings new and fresh interpretations to these classic songs. Backed by a great band and arrangements that recall the heyday of swing - with just a hint of western swing, Lily blends a period feel with a contemporary sensibility. This recording appeals to both veteran jazz fans and a young contemporary audience.
*Lily will be performing at the Drake Underground in Toronto on March 28

Journey

  • Glenn & Colleen Allan
Sometimes people aren't what they seem. Glenn & Colleen are the parents of three kids. Glenn was a little league coach and sports broadcaster. Collen was a busy mom. What their friends didn't know was that Glenn & Colleen were both sexually abused in their younger years – Glenn by a hockey coach and Collen... well she ended up being trafficked throughout Europe, Mexico and Canada. Later in life, at night, Glenn would hang out with his organized crime buddies, sometimes lending a fist – Colleen was a biker chick. Somehow they were able to live double lives. Today they try to cope with their past, support others who have been abused, and raise three autistic kids.
