Tower Of Power — THE #1 Urban Soul Band
For over 40 years, Tower of Power has been creating their own kind of soul music. Since 1968, Tower of Power has delivered their unique brand of music to their fans, appearing before sold out crowds as they tour the world each year. Tower’s sound can be hard to categorize, but the band's leader and founding member, Emilio Castillo, has labeled their sound as "Urban Soul Music". Tower's rhythm section lays down a groove like no other band. The band’s horn driven sound is unique, and the way they approach everything, from writing and arranging to mixing and performing, is totally their own. Combine all of that with an outstanding lead vocalist and you have one of the most dynamic groups of musicians to ever hit the stage. Many other bands came out of the San Francisco Bay area in the late 60's. Bands like The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, Big Brother, Journey, Cold Blood and others all helped to define the "San Francisco Sound". Over the years, the Tower of Power Horns have recorded with hundreds of artists as diverse as Aerosmith, Elton John, Little Feat, Phish, Santana, Heart, and many others, forever infusing the radio airwaves with Tower’s musical DNA. Founding member, Emilio Castillo, joins us to share a little about his spiritual journey and the journey of one of Drew's all time favourite bands – Tower Of Power! Dr. Gregory Jantz — Psychologist, Author, Specialist in Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, & Eating Disorders
Nearly 30 years ago, eating disorder specialist Dr. Gregg Jantz had a vision of Hope. Trained in counseling, he looked at the treatment options available and realized something was missing. In all areas of need – from eating disorders to depression – hurting people went to a doctor, a psychiatrist, a counselor, and a pastor, going from place to place looking for Hope, help and healing from their pain. At each junction, they received help for a piece of the puzzle, but that puzzle often remained unsolved. Instead of settling for fractured care, Dr. Jantz created The Center, known as "a place of hope" - leaders in whole-person care where people find comprehensive, coordinated care from a treatment team using a whole-person model "inspired healthcare" –addressing medical, physical, psychological, emotional, nutritional, fitness and spiritual factors involved in recovery. -
Tim Stafford — Author of The Adam Quest:Can Faith and Science Co-Exist?
World class scientists reconcile their work and their faith in Tim Stafford's new book, Adam Quest. As the civil war between science and faith rages on, evidence—via the lives of some of the world’s most brilliant scientific minds—shows that the two can co-exist. It is no easy task to reconcile the history taught in the Bible with the discoveries of the scientific community. Author Tim Stafford watched the tension between the beliefs of Darwin and the teachings of Genesis shake the faith of his family, ruin friendships and leave Christians in the field of science feeling as though the doors of the church were closed to their profession. He believes this civil war can stop. The Adam Quest offers a compelling new look at the beginnings of life as Stafford puts questions of dinosaurs, genealogy, and the age of the earth to eleven world-class scientists. A sweeping book – touching everything from advances in genetics to the life of a particle physicist striving to become an Anglican priest – Stafford uses the stories and journeys of these remarkable men and women to provide a new diversity of answers. *Tim Stafford is Senior Writer for Christianity Today Magazine, where he has published many profiles of significant Christian leaders including Tim Keller, N.T. Wright, Lesslie Newbigin, Phillip Johnson, and Jack Hayford.

Tony Russell
Embracing the mysteries of life with Atheist, Agnostics, Christians, & those interested in living a better life. “I’m a former pastor who is in the closet! No not that closet…I’m in the doubters closet trying to figure out who I am, who God is or isn’t, and if there is any room for church in my life. I began to truly examine what I said I believed vs. what I truly believed in my heart and it was disturbing. I wondered why I couldn’t be free to say that I’m not sure the bible is God’s words, I think most pastors are manipulative narcissist, and I think it is okay for my gay friends to get married. And what about hell? I don’t think a loving God would send someone to hell, and why would I be afraid to say that out loud? I realized it was time to unload some baggage and begin breaking free from the chains of religion. After all, Jesus said He came to set the captive free, but I felt trapped. So this blog is simply about my journey, and the things that I’m learning about the church, myself, and this amazingly beautiful world.”

TOPICS
1/ Megachurch pastor & Calvinist author Mark Driscoll, tweeted last week: “If you are not a Christian, you are going to Hell. It's not unloving to say that. It's unloving to not say that.” Ohhhh – so THAT'S love!
2/ Is this what we have all been waiting for? Did the Pope just make THE most healing statement regarding the countless sex abuse scandals within the Catholic Church?: “But are we ashamed? So many scandals that I do not want to mention individually, but all of us know...We know where they are! Scandals, some who charged a lot of money.... The shame of the Church! But are we all ashamed of those scandals, of those failings of priests, bishops, laity? Where was the Word of God in those scandals; where was the Word of God in those men and in those women? They did not have a relationship with God! They had a position in the Church, a position of power, even of comfort. But the Word of God, no! 'But, I wear a medal,' ‘I carry the Cross ' ... Yes, just as those bore the Ark! Without the living relationship with God and the Word of God! I am reminded of the words of Jesus about those for whom scandals come ... And here the scandal hit: bringing decay to the people of God, including the weakness and corruption of the priests.”
