  • CAMINO CONFESSIONS: Lydia B. Smith — Director & Producer of Walking The Camino: Six Ways To Santiago
500 miles on foot. Bunk-beds. Blisters. Stunning landscapes. World-class snorers. Hot searing sun, freezing cold rain. Kindness from strangers. Debilitating injury. Unexpected romance. No toilet paper when you really need it. Profound grief and deep doubt. Hunger. Laughing with new friends. Total exhaustion. You are guaranteed to experience all of this when walking the ancient pilgrim path, the Camino de Santiago. Across Spain, this sacred path stretches westward to the city of Santiago de Compostela where the bones of the apostle St. James are said to be buried. The Camino is world-renowned; UNESCO named it a World Heritage Site and the Council of Europe declared it the first European Cultural Itinerary. Millions of people from all over the world have traveled this trail for over 1,000 years – in 2010 alone, over 270,000 people attempted the arduous trek – each one a seeker of something. In the Middle Ages, pilgrims sought forgiveness of their sins and admission to heaven. The Camino remains, for many, a quest of faith. Others begin with no spiritual impetus in mind, but nevertheless are drawn to examine their personal beliefs and life purpose. And others are in it simply for the intense physical challenge. Whatever their motivation, no one can predict just how their path will unfold, who they will meet, what personal demons or angels they will face, or what transformations they will undergo by the trail’s end. Walking the Camino is an up-close look at one of humanity’s most time-honored traditions. By following pilgrims from all walks of life as they attempt to cross an entire country on foot with only a backpack, a pair of boots and an open mind, we witness the Camino’s magnetic and miraculous power to change lives. Driven by an inexplicable calling and a grand sense of adventure, each pilgrim throws themselves heart-and-soul into their physical trek to Santiago and, most importantly, their personal journey to themselves.
*Drew ran into Lydia on The Camino and ended up becoming good pals as they walked together for a few days.

  • Michele Cushatt — Author of I AM: A 60-Day Journey to Knowing Who You Are Because of Who He Is
From the moment a woman wakes until she falls, exhausted, on her pillow, one question plagues her at every turn: Am I enough? After all, the pressure to do more, be more, has never been more intense. Online marketing. Self-help books. Movies, magazines and gym memberships. Even church attendance and social media streams have become a means of comparing ourselves to impossible standards. Am I pretty enough? Hip enough? Spiritual enough? We fear the answer is “No.” When a brutal bout with cancer changed how she looked, talked, and lived, Michele Cushatt embarked on a soul-deep journey to rediscover herself. The typical self-esteem strategies and positivity plans weren’t enough. Instead, she needed a new foundation, one that wouldn’t prove flimsy when faced with the onslaught of day-to-day life. With raw personal stories and radical truths on which to rebuild your life, I Am will help you:
    • End the barrage of negative self-talk with an empowering new narrative.
    • Refuse to ride the rollercoaster of others’ opinions and start believing what God says about you.
    • Break the people-pleasing cycle and find rest from the ruthless drive to prove your worth.
    • Stop agonizing over past regrets and failures and make peace with God’s sovereign plan for your life.
    • Leave insecurity behind as you exchange temporary fixes for an identity established on God’s unchanging affection.

    TODAY'S JOURNEY: Lorie & Dwight
Lorie & Dwight raised 5 children, Adriana being the youngest. On Saturday May 26th, 2012, 16-year old Adri ended her own life. Her mom recalls: “We were out for dinner and I became violently nauseated and went straight home rather than going to a special event we had planned. We arrived home just in time to have three police officers walk in our door and ask to see a photo of Adri. I had seen this in the movies and somehow found my way to the computer to pull up a recent photo of Adri. They said yes, that was her. The horror of all horrors unfolded. I had a year where I put God on the back burner because it was so painful and I was angry and sad.” Lorie was stuck in her “Great Sadness", just like Mackenzie from The Shack. Today, we’ll find out how they kicked at the darkness until it bled daylight.

Pub Crawl

  • Drew & His Mates Crack Open A Few!
Current affairs, pop culture, even touchy-feely-relational stuff. Listen in OR call and join us, as we crawl from topic to topic! (Got a topic you want the gang from the pub to crack open? CLICK HERE)

This Week on The Pub Crawl:

#1 Canada’s most famous gay minister and a leading LGBT rights advocate, Reverend Brent Hawkes, was found not guilty of indecent assault and gross indecency this week, dating back to when Hawkes was a teacher over 40 years ago. However, the judge also said that he did not believe Rev. Hawkes and did not accept a great deal of his testimony as being true. The judge was especially concerned about the fact that Hawkes allowed his students to enter his home and serve themselves enough alcohol as to affect their memories of the night’s events in question.

QUESTION: Even though Rev. Hawkes was found innocent, should this incident and the judges comments be enough for him to reconsider being in spiritual leadership? Should his church ask him to resign or at the very least, put him on a leave of absence? Or was this “indiscretion” so long ago that the phrase, “but by the grace of God go I” applies here?

#2 President Trump’s executive order banning travel into the United States by citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries, including refugees, has many saying that if you are truly a religious person, you would want all borders to be open to anyone, especially to anyone declaring refugee status, legally or not.

QUESTION: Since the utopian dream of a borderless kumbaya world is not a reality, should we not limit who and how many come into our countries? Should everyone be able to go wherever they want, whenever they want, without abiding by the rules of the land they want to go to? What do you say to the immigrant who just spent thousands trying to follow the rules and hours filling out the right forms and months waiting in line? What do you say to your loved one who can't get the medical care they need now because of a funding shortage, but funds are being used to assimilate illegal refugees and pay for their medical care? Would you be okay opening up your home to a family that lives under Sharia Law? Honour killings, genital mutilation and other faith based gender inequality issues are not part of Canada, so should we not be vetting new Canadians? Or is that being a xenophobic, racist, redneck, Conservative, Christian? WWJLI? (Who Would Jesus Let In)
