It's summertime up here in the Great White North, which means people right across Canada are hopefully taking some time off to relax! So, during July we're gonna slooooow things down a bit. Drew will play you some incredible music from this season’s LIVE on TDMS performers, interview some Camino Gurus (to help Drew prepare for his 2 month pilgrimage on The Camino de Santiago), he’ll replay some of the most compelling personal journeys that made a real impact on him, talk about some current issues with some of his buddies on an extended version of The Pub Crawl, and of course play some Useless TV Trivia with YOU! Happy 2 Months Of Summer Canada!

DREW’S PILGRIMAGE PREPARATION!

  • The Camino De Santiago
This October 2016 (right after his 1st grandchild is born) Drew will be heading out on The Camino De Santiago. For well over a thousand years, millions of pilgrims have walked The Way of St James - the most popular route being almost 800KM's. (Beginning in France, over the Pyrenees Mountains, across Northern Spain to the Atlantic) And just to make things interesting, Drew will be doing the entire trail in a vow of silence. Along The Way he’ll be writing about his experiences interacting with other pilgrims, without being able to speak, and posting on The Drew Marshall Show Facebook Page. The plan is to finish the Camino on his 50th birthday on November 30th. Every Saturday in July (the last month of Season 13) Drew will be interviewing a variety of “Camino Gurus” in order to prepare for his upcoming “bucket list” experience.

TODAY’S CAMINO GURU - Rebekah Scott
Rebekah Scott, an acknowledged "Camino Busybody" was born in Pittsburgh, USA but now lives in Spain on The Camino. She grew up in a military family and moved 10 times in 15 years. Rebekah attended university and Anglican seminary, then worked in daily newspaper and magazine journalism for 22 years for a variety of US publications, specializing in travel, religion, and features. It was on a travel assignment in 1993 that she discovered the Camino de Santiago, (just as it was breaking on the North American consciousness), and fell in love with Spain. Rebekah returned to walk the 500-mile Camino Frances trail in 2001, and life was never the same afterward. She trained in Toronto to became a hospitalera (volunteer hostel host) in 2002, and finally dropped out of media, sold up, and moved to Spain in 2006. Since then she has lived and worked on the Camino at Peaceable Kingdom Spain, a house in a tiny pueblo that's open to pilgrims and other wanderers on a donation basis. Rebekah also oversees an annual Camino litter pickup program and staffing at two pilgrim hostels. She keeps a popular blog ("Big Fun in a Tiny Pueblo") and has written several Camino trail guides as well as "The Moorish Whore," a best-selling historical novel (2012), and "Holy Year," a new memoir, soon to be released.

Journey

  • Best Of TDMS Journey Replay
Without question, TDMS Journey segments have been the most popular with our listeners over the last 13 years. Throughout the last month of Season 13, Drew will replay some of the most powerful personal stories of overcomers you will ever hear.

    THIS WEEK:

Karl & Lenore Wirtz (Originally Aired May 7, 2011)
Nothing would have ever prepared Lenore for the worst half-hour of her life. She’d only been working at a local clothing shop in Orangeville a couple of weeks and this was her first shift by herself. Then, on July 11th, 2009, with only five minutes left in her shift, a man entered the store and proceeded to strangle her, kick her, and stab her 31 times. Somehow, Lenore had the presence of mind to fake her own death just so the assailant would stop. The man eventually did stop, shut off the lights, lock the front door of the store and left out the back of the building. Laying there hearing the sound of blood leaving her body, Lenore knew that if she didn’t at least try to go for help that she would bleed to death. She would never see her three girls or husband again. So with everything she had, Lenore began to get up. However, the man who had so savagely and randomly attempted to murder her hadn’t actually left. He’d only gone into the washroom to clean the blood from his hands. When he saw that Lenore was still alive, he came back to finish the job. Somehow – someway – eventually, Lenore found her way to the front door and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of the shop, where she was able to get the attention of a man who called 911. She had only one unit of blood left in her and to this day is called “a walking miracle” by the local police. Today, Lenore and her husband talk about “life after” and how this traumatic event has impacted even their spiritual lives.

Pub Crawl

  • Drew & His Mates Crack Open A Few! — Extended Summer Edition
Listen in as Drew and his guests crack open a few! Crawling from topic to topic - current affairs, pop culture, even touchy-feely-relational stuff.Got a topic you want the gang from the pub to crack open? CLICK HERE

    TODAY’S TOPICS:

1/ Should an evangelical, for profit, Disney type theme park (that has a 510 foot by 85 foot by 8 stories high Noah's Ark) get an $18 million tax break when their employees have to sign a statement of faith disavowing homosexuality, same-sex marriage, premarital sex, and believe in the literal 6-day creation account in Genesis? (Namely, that dinosaurs lived beside people about 6000 years ago.) And is this a good use of "God's money"? Would you visit?

2/ A new poll suggests that almost 70% of Canadians are cool with legalizing marijuana. So now that it’s almost legal, what impact will this have on religious people whose main reason for being “against” it was that marijuana was illegal? Will Christians lighten up on pot the same way they’ve lightened up on booze, especially in the last 30 years?

3/ Ontario will be introducing gender-neutral driver's licences in 2017. Drivers will be able to select X, instead M or F. The government of Ontario just recently started issuing health cards that no longer display people’s gender. Schools have also been forced to figure out how to best tackle the issue of genderless washrooms. Today, two males and one female will share their thoughts on genderlessness.

4/ A YouTube Video posted last year shows a boat full of yahoos coming along side of a swimming moose, then one idiot jumps onto the moose’s back and rides it like he’s in a rodeo. Two men have been have each been charged with three offences under The Wildlife Act: harassing wildlife with the use of a boat / attempting to capture wildlife / hunting big game that is swimming. Is this karma or tree hugging politically correct craziness?

Talkback, etc.
