Journey

  • Michelle — Children's Ministry Coordinator, Kerr Street Ministries
Raised a Jehovah's Witness, Michelle's family were rejected by the JW community when her parents divorced - her mother for smoking as a coping mechanism and her father for adultery. Her life was pulled out from underneath her during her high school years and Michelle began drinking. In University, she returned to the JW community for answers to life. They began to push for Baptism and she began to push for answers to questions they just couldn't answer. Years later, Michelle has finally found unconditional love and even the ability to forgive her brother sexually abusing her.

Talkback, etc.

  • Should people with addictive personalities be Pastors?
If someone has been addicted to pornography, alcohol, drugs, overeating, smoking, work, etc., should they be in spiritual leadership? Even though the primary addiction may have subsided, the addictive personality usually takes years of intense work to manage, or may never change at all. The addiction might simply change. Is admitting that you are an addict and that you've had a few clean years, enough for someone to get the "all clear" to be a spiritual leader in a church? Or is there a higher calling for Pastors?
