  • BB King — King Of The Blues (September 16, 1925 – May 14, 2015)
10 years ago when Drew interviewed BB King, he asked him this question: "Let's say God gives you another 10 years on the planet, what do you want to do before you say Bye-Bye?" Mr King talked about regrets. He talked about women - "I don't want to sleep with them today but I still love 'em!" He talked about wanting to work with Oscar Peterson. He talked about his spiritual beliefs. Drew recalls, “I remember BB telling me that this was the first time he's ever been interviewed by someone like me. Wish I knew what he meant by that!!” We've lost another legend so today we'll replay one of Drew's most favourite interviews, with the King Of The Blues – Mr BB King.

  • Michael Coren — Journalist, Broadcaster, Author
One of Canada's most famous Catholics - turned Evangelical - turned Catholic - has now turned Anglican. Michael has been on our show numerous times talking about his various books. (Why Catholics Are Right being one of them.) Today we speak to Michael about this new transition in his Christian journey. According to an interview he gave to The National Post, one of the main reasons Michael just couldn't be a Catholic was because of their stance on homosexuality. “I felt a hypocrite being part of a church that described homosexual relations as being disordered and sinful. I just couldn’t be part of it anymore. I could not do that. I couldn’t look people in the eye and make the argument that is still so central to the Catholic Church, that same-sex attraction is acceptable but to act on it is sinful. I felt that the circle of love had to be broadened, not reduced.”

  • Michael Ruse — Philosopher of Science, Author of Atheism: What Everyone Needs To Know
Over the last decade, "New Atheists" such as Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens have pushed the issue of atheism to the forefront of public discussion. Yet very few of the ensuing debates and discussions have managed to provide a full and objective treatment of the subject. Atheism: What Everyone Needs To Know provides a much-needed balanced look at this contentious topic, considering atheism historically, philosophically, theologically, sociologically and psychologically. Written in an easily accessible style, the book uses a question and answer format to examine the history of atheism, arguments for and against atheism, the relationship between religion and science, the issue of the meaning of life, and whether or not one can be a happy and satisfied atheist. Above all, author Michael Ruse stresses that the atheism controversy is not just a matter of the facts, but a matter of burning moral concern, both about the stand one should take on the issues and the consequences of one's commitment.
*Michael Ruse was born in 1940 in England. He is the author or editor of over fifty books, the founding editor of Biology and Philosophy, the recipient of four honorary degrees, a Guggenheim Fellow, a Gifford Lecturer, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. In recent years, his attention has been turned increasingly towards the relationships between science and religion. He is not a believer, but thinks that the two can exist together harmoniously.

  • This Week's Recording Artist — Melanie Brulée
    CHECK THIS VIDEO OUT!
“Indie-spaghetti-western-surf-folk-cabaret” is the best way to describe this indescribable Canadian talent. There are many characters in Melanie's performances. The sassy French-Canadian arsonist, the twangy country star and the family-minded folkie are among her musical disguises, and none of these personalities outweighs the others. "These are all parts of my experience; they are just intense, heightened versions of what I've been through and how I've felt. There’s absolute freedom in being able to explore these facets to their depth. I’ve only just scratched the surface." Melanie Brulée is known for her charismatic live performances, a bilingual mix of folk, cabaret, country and pop. A “quirky and inventive” live performer, her latest offering is a indie French album with plenty of synth and spaghetti-western-surf guitar. Previous knowledge of the French language not required, she charms easily with her rich voice and sweetly sassy stage presence.
*Melanie will be releasing her latest album – Débridée – May 26 @ www.burdockto.com Doors open at 8:00. Gig at 9:00. Tickets are $10 in advance / $15 at the door.
